Vittorio Zambardi | Anonymous figures – 15803
oil on canvas, 60 x 45 cm, 2020

Vittorio Zambardi was born in Italy in 1977. He studied painting at the Düsseldorf Academy of Arts where he graduated in 2010.
Since then he has been participating in national and international group and solo exhibitions. The artist lives and works in Berlin.

Influenced by the tradition of baroque painting, light and shadow appear to me as important elements of style – evoking the feeling of a theatre stage between reality and drama.

I am particularly interested in what a painting may be missing at first glance, the invisible – the images that are created in our heads, all the projections.

The skin’s nature, which is it actually different from the painted canvas – is it not the surface of colors, scars and unevennesses they have in common?

It inspires me when people feel unobserved, when they are completely at their own hands – in uncontrolled beauty yet also vulnerable.

The tradition of European painting is certainly largely religious, but art has emancipated itself from it. Today we find the divine in art itself.

A moment when time stands still, an intimate moment, maybe trying to stop our transience.
